Who we are

Domestic Violence Response (DVR) is a community led organisation responding to the issue of domestic violence in Galway County. Our aim is to identify and respond to the needs of women and children who are subjected to violence and abuse in the home and to develop long-term responses that work towards the elimination of domestic violence. The principles that inform the work of DVR include:

What we do

Our aim is to identify and respond to the needs of women and children in County Galway who are subjected to violence and abuse in the home. We aim to develop long-term responses that work towards the elimination of domestic violence. Our front line services include  a five day week counselling support and information service, a telephone support service, advocacy accompaniment to relevant agencies including Courts, Educational support programmes for women and training and public awareness on the issue of domestic violence.

How we do it

Our work is prioritised under the following areas:

  • Support for women and children who are subjected to abuse in the home.
  • Prevention, Education and Awareness work.

We provide a free and confidential support service to women and children subjected to violence and abuse in the home. We offer support to women and children at all stages in abusive relationships – from the early stages to the latter stages of rebuilding your life after an abusive relationship.

We provide accompaniment to other services such as Gardai, Solicitor, Case Conferences, Social Welfare etc

We provide referrals to other organisations

We provide telephone support

We provide monitored phone systems for victims

We run workshops and training courses throughout the year for individuals subjected to abuse and for professionals who come in to contact with victims of domestic abuse. These include Empowerment Workshops, Communication Workshops, Exploring Healthy Relationships, Parenting in the Aftermath of Domestic Violence, Paths To Freedom, Impact of Domestic Violence on Mothering and Exploring estrangement and Loss.

We also run experiential support groups where women can meet with other women who are/have been in similar situations

individuals who want to know how to support a friend or family member  e.g. aunt, friend, sister, mother etc
